Shining Bright: Our Call to Be Light in a Dark World
Our sermon explored Jesus’ teaching from Matthew 5.1;13-16, emphasizing our role as “the light of the world.”
We see a contrast between darkness and light throughout Scripture, the importance of visibility in our faith, and the dangers of mission drift.
The sermon highlights our calling to shine brightly in a world often shrouded in darkness, reminding us of our responsibility to illuminate the lives of those around us with the love and truth of Christ.
Takeaways:
- We are called to be visible: As followers of Christ, we stand out like a city on a hill or a lamp on a stand. Our faith should be evident and impactful in the world around us.
- Our identity as light is present, not future: Jesus emphatically states, “You are the light of the world,” not “you will be” or “you should be.” This serves as a reminder of our current responsibility and identity in Christ.
- We must guard against mission drift: Like the religious leaders of Jesus’ time and some of the early churches, we can easily lose sight of our true purpose. We stay focused on our calling to be salt and light in the world.
As we move forward this week, let’s consider how we can practically shine our light in our homes, workplaces, and communities.
Remember, the greatest work we can do is to guide others from darkness to the light of Christ.
May God bless you and empower you to shine brightly for His glory.
In His light,
Pastor Jeremy
