So What’s New?

The word “new” can bring many different reactions all the way from joy to fear. How do you feel when I say a new job? a new dress? a new house? meeting new people? moving to a different area? These thoughts can bring anxiety, nervousness, satisfaction, hope, excitement or delight.

I think God likes the word “new.” We are encouraged to sing a new song to the Lord. Ps. 33:3. The benefit of this is that it helps us think of different creative ways to bring honor to His name. A new way of showing the creative expression of His life in us is by declaring glory to Him. Go ahead. Try singing a new song…do it in the shower if that helps. By the way, God sings new songs over us. Zeph. 3:17

In Lamentations (a book about weeping and crying) there is a hidden gem that is “new.” We are told in 3:22-23 that God lets us live by His mercies and His compassion. They never fail us. They are “new” every morning. Isn’t it great to start every day in the new mercies and compassion of God? That right there is worthy of a “new” song.

God gave us a new law and it is fantastic. It is the new commandment in John 13:34-35 which says, “A new commandment I give to you:  love one another. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples.” So…love one another! This is the best and most gratifying way to relate to your family, friends and the people around you.

Try singing a new song to the Lord… you’ll love it.
